Unfortunately
it was a very windy evening and a trophy should go to all those who attempted
to fly; four decided to leave their models in the back of their cars. Douglass
Barber (not Douglass Bader) came over from Preston with his Piper Cub and,
although having to hand launch, put in four reasonable flights to take the
Derek Wilson Trophy. Nick Bosdit’s BE12 B, usually putting in contest winning
flights, could not manage it on the evening because of the very strong wind. Bill
Dennis’s Avro 504K gradually started to lose structural integrity (coming
to pieces!) and probably did its very last flight that evening.
Ray Hall’s Chrislea Ace could not manage a takeoff in the strong wind and the
wind got the better of it even from a hand launch. Ray didn’t want to risk
his Eddie Riding model so near Woodvale.
Thanks
to John Thompson from the Northern Area for helping out with the judging.
